The My Path Program

The My Path Program is a specialized, inpatient treatment program tailored to the needs of younger adults who range in age from 19 years to their mid-twenties. The program is designed to address needs of clients and includes a wide variety of therapeutic activities to support recovery. Clients are supported by a multi-disciplinary team that may consists of many specialists, including a psychologist, psychiatrist, 24-hour nursing staff and a variety of other helping professionals. The My Path Program is built on the nationally recognized expertise of Homewood Health, which has almost 140 years of experience treating mental health and addiction challenges. At Ravensview, we use evidence-based practices to deliver the highest level of care for each client.

The My Path Program is delivered as an inpatient service—this means that clients come and stay at the facility for their treatment. For addiction treatment, the length of stay is six weeks. For treatment related to depression, anxiety, trauma, or concurrent disorders*, the length of stay is nine weeks. This format allows for an immersive program, where clients can connect with our specialized healthcare team and with other treatment participants in group therapy as well as participating in individual one to one counselling sessions.  Therapy groups cover a variety of themes, and include evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioural therapy and dialectical behaviour therapy, alongside distinctive treatment services like recreation therapy, horticultural therapy and art and music therapies, which further expand knowledge and capacity while building a foundation for growth and recovery.

*The term “concurrent disorder” is used when an individual struggles with one or more mental health issues at the same time that they are dealing with substance use disorder.

Who is the My Path Program for?

Adults aged 19-25 from all cultural and social backgrounds are supported within the My Path Program.

Often clients are dealing with a range of issues related to but not limited to: transition to adulthood, self-esteem, identity, sexuality and social dynamics.  The My Path Program was developed specifically to provide treatment that addresses both clinical issues (anxiety and mental health issues), and these wider issues of identity, that individuals may wrestle with at this stage of life.

The criteria for successful treatment are:

  • A desire to make meaningful changes
  • A willingness to participate in a rigorous and supportive treatment program

Why Choose the My Path Program

There are several areas of distinction that make Ravensview and the My Path Program unique. We offer a treatment program focused on the unique needs of young adults.  Each client is given a comprehensive assessment, so that treatment can be tailored to their needs.  Each My Path Program client then has the opportunity to participate in strong, evidence-based programming, including group programming with other clients who are working on similar issues and challenges.

Treatment

The My Path Program treats a variety of mental health and addiction-related issues. Specifically, the program is designed to help people with:

Many people seeking treatment within the My Path Program have multiple types of difficulties, so we welcome individuals to reach out to our intake team to discuss their needs. People are unique and sometimes complex and the My Path Program is structured to deal with this. Through comprehensive assessment and specialized treatment, we are able to treat the multiple challenges and concurrent presentations that people may bring into treatment.

The Ravensview Approach

Our treatment approach is inclusive and evidence-based. First and foremost, we treat people as people, rather than reducing them to a ‘diagnosis’. We do a rigorous assessment with each client at the beginning of treatment, to help us understand the person and the specific problems they want to address through treatment.

Each client has a one-on-one assessment with a psychiatrist and a psychologist or other mental health specialist. This comprehensive assessment provides important insight to develop their treatment program.

All of our programs benefit from Ravensview’s unique treatment location on Vancouver Island, which offers a wide range of outdoor recreation opportunities and provides an incredible location for structured therapeutic activities. The facility itself is located a tranquil mountain, in a private and peaceful setting with access to natural trails and John Dean Provincial Park.
