Abstinence-based medical treatment for addiction and substance use, using proven therapies
We provide private, effective and adaptable addiction care for individuals wanting to reduce their dependency on alcohol and/or drugs (including medications), or who want to change other addictive behaviour that may be disrupting their lives.
Our approach
Addiction treatment at Ravensview is overseen by a team that includes a psychiatrist and addiction physician as well as an interdisciplinary team including a psychologist, counsellors and nursing professionals. This program is offered to people living with addiction and additional supports are available to their family members as part of the fully integrated system of care.

Addiction treatment for adults
Adults in the Cornerstone Program are assessed for possible addiction and substance use issues. Where required, those who are diagnosed with addiction receive expert medical detox and/or withdrawal management in accordance with the highest standards of care. Following detox, clients receive a comprehensive evaluation to determine the factors underlying their addiction along with treatment goals and a plan to achieve these goals.
Addiction treatment for young adults
Young adults ages 19+ who attend the My Path Program receive a specialized assessment and treatment plan. Our team’s areas of expertise with addiction include alcohol, cannabis, hallucinogens, stimulants, opiates and prescription drugs.

Addiction treatment for first responders
As part of the Guardians Program, first responders, military and/or veterans undergo a rigorous assessment conducted by an addiction medicine specialist who has extensive expertise with this population. Clients with addictions or substance use disorders participate in comprehensive treatment that targets the addiction and the mental health issues that may contribute to the addiction.
What is addiction and substance use?

Addiction is a form of physical and psychological dependence on legal or illicit drugs including alcohol, nicotine, caffeine, cocaine, or narcotics. A person can also become addicted to behaviours such as gambling, sex, shopping or using the internet excessively. They generally have trouble controlling their behaviour or preventing the escalation of the behaviour, even if it creates significant social, psychological, physical and/or logistical problems in their lives.
Tobacco use/ smoking cessation support during treatment
As smoking continues to be Canada’s leading cause of preventable death and disease, at Homewood Ravensview, we are completely smoke and tobacco free.
Tobacco use / smoking is often used to manage stress, cravings, or emotional discomfort—similar triggers that drive substance use. By eliminating nicotine dependence in a structured treatment environment, individuals learn healthier ways to cope with stress, regulate emotions, and manage cravings without relying on substances. This reinforces the development of sustainable, positive habits that contribute to lasting recovery and overall well-being.
Tobacco use / smoking cessation while in treatment, is directly related to better treatment outcomes, wellness, and recovery, however, we understand that quitting smoking can be very difficult. Clients who require tobacco / smoking cessation support, will be supported from day 1 through a holistic model of care. This may include assessment, counselling, group sessions, strategies for behavioural change, and withdrawal management with an approved smoking cessation aid. Smoke cessation aids may be provided by our staff, as required and clinically indicated. The various supports and interventions provided will depend on the unique needs identified collaboratively between the treatment team and the client.
